On the contrary, the scientific community recognizes some health supplements as helpful in the treatment of certain conditions such as liver cirrhosis, decreased libido and side effects of chemotherapy.
Health supplements, as defined by Congress, are "a product taken by mouth that contains a dietary ingredient intended to supplement the diet. The dietary ingredients in these products may include: vitamins, minerals, herbs or other botanicals, amino acids and substances such as enzymes, organ tissues, glandulars and metabolites."
Health supplements come in several different forms including tablets, capsules, soft gels, powders, gel caps, liquids or bars. These supplements are used for various purposes such as increasing energy, lowering cholesterol, supporting immune health, muscle gain, weight loss, other health benefits and an improvement to overall quality of life.
Always keep in mind that health supplements are not a substitute for a healthy diet and exercise routine. However, certain supplements are helpful in making sure you get any nutritional benefits that you may not be getting from your diet alone.
It is important to access your particular need for each health supplement before you begin adding to your health regime.
